Dear participants of the AM Canada International Music Competition,

The 4th AM Canada International Music Competition finals have successfully concluded. We deeply appreciate the passion and effort demonstrated by all participants throughout this competition.

While all performances were impressive, the highest honour, the Grand Prize, will not be awarded this year. This decision was made to maintain the fair and consistent standards that match the outstanding skill and musical depth demonstrated by previous Grand Prize winners. We kindly ask for your understanding regarding this decision.

To recognize the exceptional skills showcased by participants in each category, the following awards will be presented:

01. Eligibility

***Those who are currently enrolled in a general education institute (elementary, middle, high school, college/university), arts institute, international institute, specialized high school, homeschooled, or a special needs school (welfare card holders)

Participants:

  • Elementary School A Grades 1-3

  • Elementary School B Grades 4-6

  • Middle School

  • College and Adults (up to 32 years of age)

Repertoire:

  • Elementary School: Different pieces for preliminary and final round, each in duration of 3-10 minutes; The preliminary piece can be submitted at registration below and the final piece can be submitted on the date of the deadline.

  • Middle School, High School, College and Adults: Any work not exceeding 15 minutes for both the preliminary and final round. The preliminary piece can be submitted at registration below and the final piece can be submitted on the date of the deadline.

    ***Note: In the case of sonatas, a performer must play the 1st movement or both the 1st and 2nd movements without repetition from memory.

02. Application fee and Process

Application Fee (non-refundable):

  • Solo Instrument:

    • Canada: $75 CAD

    • Other Countries: $150 CAD

  • Duo/Ensembles:

    • Canada: $60 CAD/Person

    • Other Countries: $100 CAD/Person

  • Individuals attending a special needs school (with supporting documents sent to ammusicconnection@gmail.com):

    • Canada: $60 CAD

    • Other Countries: $100 CAD

  • **Individuals residing outside of Canada:

    • $150 CAD

    • Must contact ammusicconnection@gmail.com after application submission regarding payment information

Payment Method: Online payment e-transfer to ammusicconnection@gmail.com

***To ensure applications are successfully submitted and accepted, please make sure that the name when sending the application fee matches that of the applicant. If you are unable to do so, the instrument name must be noted next to the name. If you have any questions regarding this, please send an email to ammusicconnection@gmail.com so as to avoid rejection of your application.

All application fees are non-refundable.

All participants who successfully pass the preliminary round will receive AMMC Certification.

All winners are eligible to participate in all events sponsored or hosted by AMMC, such as:

  • Korea-Canada Cultural and Art Exchange and 75th Anniversary of the Korean War commemoration in Ottawa, Canada, in 2024-2025 (at Sir Jon A. Macdonald Building or Senate of Canada Building) in June 2025

  • The 2nd Dumpling Concert in Vancouver, Canada in January 2025

  • The 11th AMMC Fundraising Dinner Concert in Vancouver, Canada in May 2025

  • Other AMMC sponsored events

Winners of the Grand Prize, Ambrose Special Award, and Best Teacher Award are provided with opportunities for interviews in media such as the newspaper, Vancouver JoongAng Daily.

03. Awards

Note: Since the results will be based on absolute evaluation, there may be cases where there is no winner or more than 1 winner. There may be changes in the competition dates and/or location due to unforeseeable events.

AMMC Best Teacher Award:

  • We highly value and respect the guidance and teachings that have led to the achievements of those who take part in the AMMC international competition. This award is presented to a teacher who strives for the bright future of a student who has chosen the path of a musician, and helps many participants achieve awards in the competition.

  • Opportunity to be a judge for the 5th AMMC competition, as well as other opportunities at AMMC hosted events (Mentor + Mentee).

Team (duo, trio, quartet, piano 4 hands etc) Award:

  • Apart from the above prizes, an additional scholarship of $500 on top of the stated prize amount

04. Registration

Guideline for preliminary round video submissions.

Participants may register for the first round by submitting an application along with the application fee through e-transfer.

A passport photo or a different government issued photo ID of the participant must be submitted along with the application.

Your video recording must be a YouTube link that is public or unlisted.

  • Video recordings must clearly show the participant’s face and the entire body must be visible.

  • Video recordings that are accompanied by a pianist must include and show your pianist as well.

  • Orchestral accompanied recordings are acceptable.

  • An unedited video of the performance as a YouTube PUBLIC link. Please ensure that the link is openable, as failure to do so may lead to disqualification. Videos edited in any way will not be accepted.

  • Recordings with build-in mics on smartphones is acceptable, as long as it is clearly audible. You are more than welcome to use additional equipment as well. The use of audio edits or sound effects is prohibited.

  • Recordings with phones or iPads is allowed, as well as recording in practice rooms or lesson rooms.

  • If you are submitting an old recording, it MUST be no more than six months old.

05. Guidelines

  1. If fewer than 10 applicants register for an instrument category, it may be canceled or combined for awards.

  2. As absolute scoring is used, there may or may not be any winners in each category.

  3. Please monitor the website for updates or announcements.

  4. The competition schedule and events may be adjusted or canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, such as COVID-19 or other emergencies.

  5. Decisions on unlisted matters are at the discretion of the organizers.

  6. Submit a completed application form with an ID photo and complete the payment when registering for the preliminary round.

  7. Categories with insufficient participants may be combined for judging.

  8. Awards and privileges are subject to change based on organizer circumstances.

  9. The organizers are not responsible for any disadvantages from missed website announcements.

  10. Scholarships are awarded after tax deductions.
