"I remembered the words my father told me when I was on a plane from Korea to Canada. As soon as I entered middle school, my father bought me a used watch and said, "Become a global citizen." The meaning of global citizen that my father told me was very different from the general meaning of global citizen around the world. He said, "To be a global citizen, you should be able to speak English and have good knowledge of international news." My father got this idea from studying English hard and reading many old life English essays every Sunday until he passed away. Maybe due to such influence, I majored in English in high school, and my wife, Matilda, majored in Korean and Korean studies when we met in college and afterwards.
The most important values in my life remain "BALANCE" and "HARMONY." I strive to balance people and things without biases or preconceptions against me in a balanced and harmonious manner. In Canada, where I was free to express my ideas and start life with these values. As a "CHRISTIAN," I wish to contribute and contribute actively. In Canada, there are many charity organizations. The "AMBROSE AND MATILDA CHARITY DINNER CONCERT," held on the first Saturday of May every year, is also one of the events I can contribute to society. In this way, I can show Christians how to live their lives meaningfully and harmoniously. After more than 20 years, after I became a "CHRISTIAN LEADER" in Canada, having come from Korea as a "CHRISTIAN," I feel like I have grown like my name according to God's teachings, as God demands of us.
Excerpt from the autobiography of the late Ambrose Choi Won-Chul (DEC. 7, 1961 - MAY 1, 2021)."
St. Ambrose of Milan
The history of Ambrose Matilda Music Connection goes back to the fundraising concerts from 2014 established with the intent of providing financial support to communities and charities through the joy of music.
Ambrose and Matilda were strong believers that music eliminates boundaries and brings people together, and over the past years they have donated all of the profit made from musical events to various charities in Vancouver.
With the start of the pandemic in 2019, they recognized the vulnerable and isolated people who seeked connection as well as the financial hardship that many young, talented musicians faced.
In essence, Ambrose and Matilda wished to create events for both musicians and people in need by connecting them together through having concerts for people with limited mobility, people in hospitals and care homes or those requiring talent for funeral mass services.
AM International Music Competition is one of their first projects to support young, inspiring musicians.
