Ambrose Matilda Music Connection
Message from Matilda
I'm filled with profound gratitude for the journey we've embarked upon together through the A&M Fundraising Dinner Concerts, Competitions, and so many others.
In 2012, inspired by the teachings of Jesus, I set about on a quest to share with my community through dumplings. Regardless of their background, religion, or race – I shared with an open heart, and in doing so, found immense fulfillment and grace.
Dumplings hold a special place in my heart. During the Korean War in 1950, my father, who was born in North Korea, defected to South Korea as a young soldier at the age of 16. He never forgot the taste of homemade Pyongyang dumplings and often missed them very much. One day, my South Korean mother decided to cook them for her husband. Since she had no way of knowing its taste, she imaginatively made Pyongyang-style dumplings while relying on my father's memories. When it was finally ready, she shared the dumplings with us six siblings and neighbours. In those difficult times, dumplings were the best food to satisfy hunger, an expression of love for our neighbours, and a sign of unity. The way in which a variety of ingredients come together in harmony also symbolizes how every one of us holds a special place in this community.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many changes to our lives. On a personal level, it has been difficult with the passing of my husband, Ambrose. My heart also ached for the many global issues such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Amid these challenging times, AMMC also faced multiple moments of possible termination, but we have done our best every time to transform these adversities into opportunities for growth and development. Given these moments, reaching our 10th anniversary holds a significant meaning for us.
Looking ahead, AMMC remains steadfast in its mission to support and create a world of inclusive music. Our international conventions serve as platforms for unity, where individuals from all walks of life can come together, transcending barriers of race, gender, and culture to celebrate the universal language of music. Let us continue to harmonize, uplift, and inspire, guided by the timeless melody of inclusivity and compassion.
Thank you.
